Is your hair looking a bit lacklustre? Well, before you blame your hot styling tools and the fact you haven’t had a haircut in a long time, the answer might actually be in the way that you’re washing your locks in the shower.
Here are some things you might need to correct – your hair will thank you for it…
Avoid using very hot water
While there’s nothing better than a warm shower, lowering the temperature can do wonders for your hair. Over time, very hot water can make your hair lose its structure and colour.
Allow time before shampooing
Most people quickly get their hair wet before proceeding to shampoo. However, we should stand under water until we’re sure that our locks are thoroughly soaked. This will prepare your hair for your first shampoo.
Shampoo more than once…
One wash with shampoo isn’t enough to clean your hair properly. The first round of washing will remove any residue layered on your hair strands, while the second wash provides a deeper clean on the scalp.
…And work the product in
When rubbing shampoo into your hair, it’s important to take time to work the product into your scalp with your fingertips. This allows the hair follicle to better collect nutrients from your products.
Always use conditioner – but not all over
Conditioner is the most important step for soft and strong hair. It also helps to break down knots and stops your hair from taking on a brittle texture. However, you shouldn’t apply conditioner all over your head. Conditioner should only ever be applied to the ends of your hair. If you apply it to the roots, the formula will combine with your scalp’s natural oils, leaving your locks greasy and flat.
