manicure tools

Here are seven tools you’ll need in your fix-it kit. Pop them in a bag, stash them in your desk drawer or handbag and you’ll never be caught with shabby nails again

1. Pads or cotton wool Steal a few face pads from your makeup kit.

2. Nail-polish remover Decant into a small, leakproof container.

3. Nail clippers Hangnails can only be dealt with using a nail clipper. Get a mini pair for your kit.

4. Nail file Get a medium-sized file, it’s easier to use. Remember to file in one direction rather than back and forth.

5. Cuticle pusher Remember to push your cuticles back frequently. If your cuticles grow out too far, this can result in your skin splitting, which is very painful.

6. Base coat/nail varnish Any thin, clear nail polish can act as a base coat. It prevents your nails from absorbing the colour of your polish and turning yellow.

7. Cuticle oil This can be an actual cuticle oil from the store. Tissue oil works well too.
