Recipe Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 150g onion, finely chopped
  • 1 clove garlic, crushed
  • 900g freshly minced beef
  • 2 tbsp freshly chopped herbs from the garden, such as marjoram or rosemary
  • salt and freshly ground black pepper
  • dash of Tabasco
  • flour

My Gran’s Secret Sauce

  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • dash of soya sauce
  • 1 tsp honey
  • juice of half an orange
  • 2 tbsp tomato sauce
  • 1 tsp Dijon mustard
  • 1 tsp sugar

Recipe Directions

1. Mix all the meatball ingredients together, except the flour, and divide the mixture into round balls.

2. Dip the balls in a little flour so that they are lightly coated and then fry them in South African cold-pressed olive oil over a gentle heat until they are nicely golden.

3. To make the sauce, heat the oil in a stainless-steel pot.

4. Add all the other ingredients and stir over a gentle heat until the sugar is dissolved. Taste and adjust the flavour, if necessary.

5. Pour sauce over meatballs, and voila!

6. Serve with oven-baked veg.
