This summer time salad staple adds a savoury touch to so many other meals too

 

As an essential addition to a Greek salad, in a contemporary flavour marriage with watermelon and a splash of balsamic vinegar or in a just-baked quiche, feta is an ingredient we can’t live without. We tested 15 from supermarket shelves.

 

First place

Tasters loved the creamy, smooth consistency of Clover Feta Traditional (R24,59) and

Real deal

The Woolworths Greek Style Plain Feta (R22,95) Tasters enjoyed its salty flavour, crumble and creamy aftertaste.

Best budget

Fairview Feta (without brine) (R18,99) is in our top five, thanks to its robust flavour and firm crumble. The price is great too.

Savoury splurge

Arista Danish Style Feta Cheese (R29,99) its soft and creamy texture and glossy-white appearance.

Also Tested

Woolworths Essentials Feta (no brine) R9,95

This feta comes in a sealed pack, so ideally you have to use it all in one go. The firm, salty flavour got the thumbs up from our testers.

Spar Traditional Feta R17,99

This product compared well price-wise with other fetas in its category and was noted for its dense texture and robust savoury flavour.

Simonsberg Traditional Feta R21,99

Testers said that the Simonsberg Traditional Feta had a firm texture and a pleasant, mild flavour.
