Our taste testers judged five different brands’ straightcut chips

Oven-baked chips are fast becoming a kitchen staple. They taste great and are healthier than oil-fried ones. We put 5 brands’ straightcut chips to the test and this is how they scored:

First place

Pick n Pay’s Straight Cut Oven Chips (R19,89) were our testers’ favourite. They loved the moist texture and that the thick, unevenly cut chips looked home-made.

Slim choice

Tasters liked that the Woolworths Straight Cut Chips (R21,95) were thin, cooked evenly and remained moist.

Golden delicious

Our tasters liked the Nature’s Garden Ovenbake Chips (R18,99). They rated the chips’ delicious golden colour and tomato-saucedipping thickness.

Also tested:

McCain (R24,99)

Our tasters found these to be a little dry, but they liked the fact that the chips are chunky.

Pot O’ Gold (R14,99)

The chips had a nice soft texture and our tasters were pleased with the taste.
