Home  > How many kilojoules does your favourite hot drink contain?

Perhaps you should think twice before ordering that third cappuccino for the day

Few things warm you up on a cold winter’s day like a large mug of coffee, tea or hot chocolate, but have you ever considered how many kilojoules you’re pouring down your throat? If you’re trying to lose or maintain your weight, it’s important that you are aware of how many kilojoules you favourite hot drinks contain:

  1. Cappuccino with full cream milk and 2 teaspoons of sugar = 676kJ
  2. Cappuccino with low-fat milk and 2 teaspoons of sugar = 578kJ
  3. Regular coffee with full cream milk = 64kJ
  4. Regular coffee with low-fat milk = 52kJ
  5. Hot chocolate with full-fat milk = 1 490kJ
  6. Tea with skim milk and no sugar = 62kJ

Remember:

  • Black coffee contains fewer kilojoules than a cappuccino
  • Always choose skim or low-fat milk rather than full cream milk
  • Avoid adding sugar to sweeten your drinks
