Get younger-looking eyes without surgery
A full and defined eyebrow is key to creating a youthful appearance. ‘It draws attention upwards,’ says celebrity makeup artist Brett Freedman. To remedy sparse brows, fill in holes with a pencil, top with a powder to add colour and set with a clear brow gel. Or look for a brow wax, which combines the best qualities of all three, suggests brow specialist Maribeth Madron. We love the Hannon Gel Eyebrow Pencil in Taupe (R95) and Palladio Herbal Brow Gel (R79,95).
A subtle glow in the right spots is an immediate anti-ager. ‘Dab a highlighter underneath the arch of your brow, smudging down towards the outer tip,’ suggests Freedman. ‘This catches light at the highest point under the brows, making eyes appear bigger.’ Steer clear of silvery shimmer (it looks artificial) and opt for a champagne tone. We like Revlon Photoready Eye Primer + Brightener (R105) or Smashbox Photo Finish Lid Primer (R160).
Counter gravity’s effect on eyelids with a swipe of shadow. Dust on a flesh-coloured hue from lash line to crease, then sweep taupe into the crease. ‘This makes the crease of the eyelid look deeper, creating the illusion of a more open eye,’ explains Freedman. Our favourites: Estée Lauder Pure Color EyeShadow Duo (R360) in Cobblestones and Elizabeth Arden Color Intrigue Eyeshadow Duo (R205) in Autumn Leaves.
