Eating rice means fewer kilojoules



People who eat at least a quarter of a cup of rice per day consume 226 fewer kilojoules daily. What’s behind the ‘more grain, less gain’ concept? We generally pair rice with lower-kilojoule foods like vegetables and fish, theorise researchers at Iowa State University in the US, and we don’t slather it with butter or cheese (except for Risotto). To enhance the weight-losing benefit, eat it solo or as a side dish with a lean stir-fry.
