Get thin with a little help from your friends.

 

In a recent study at Alpert Medical School at Brown University in the US, meeting with a health coach helped dieters shed almost 10% of their weight over six months. But the counsellor didn’t have to be anyone official: a dieting friend – or so-called ‘peer coach’ – worked just as well. During sessions, the two set goals, reported progress and gave supportive feedback. Pair up wisely: a buddy with a similar lifestyle and health goals will work best, says study author Dr Tricia M Leahey.
