According to research, the former may be better for weight loss. In the US study, overweight volunteers felt more satisfied and less hungry when they ate three times a day compared with six.
The truth is, the more often you eat a meal or snack, the more opportunities you have to overindulge. The trick is to eat when you’re truly hungry but not so ravenous that you risk overeating.
If you’re not sure, ask yourself these questions before a meal:
Am I hungry?
If you’re unsure, wait 20 minutes and ask yourself again.
When was the last time I ate?
If it was less than three hours ago, it may not be real hunger.
Could a snack tide me over until the next meal?
Have fruit or vegetables on hand for this.
