To see which diet techniques work best, researchers from the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in the US followed 123 overweight women volunteers for a year as they tried to lose weight.
These simple moves were tops:
1. Eating three meals daily Those who didn’t miss meals lost 8kg more than those who skipped meals.
2. Keeping a food journal Writers lost 6kg more than those who didn’t diarise what they ate.
3. Packing lunch Women who packed their own lunches lost 5kg more than those who dined out for lunch weekly.
Stick to your plan by recording your intake as you eat rather than trying to recall a day’s worth of food at night, suggests lead researcher Dr Anne McTiernan.
