The Art of Packaging

Beautiful gift ideas are born when artists turn their attention to wine and chocolate…

Great Hostess Gift

The Afro-fabulous wrapper artwork on the new range of De Villiers Artisan Chocolate slabs (available at selected Woolworths stores) is by Congolese artist Marien Freddy Nsompy, whose work can be bought at the Pan African Market in Cape Town’s Long Street. The slabs themselves are made by Pieter de Villiers, the first South African chocolatier to create chocolate ‘from bean to bar’: using sustainable UTZ-certified cacao beans grown in Uganda, he masterminds the whole chocolate-making process – from roasting the beans to wrapping the finished product – under one roof in his small factory near Paarl in the Cape Winelands.

Pick from Intense Cocoa, Nib & Salt, Skinny Cappuccino (made with skimmed milk), Orange Peel and Vanilla, and Cinnamon and Chilli. R29,95 each

For a Special Celebration

Well-known local designer Carrol Boyes has partnered with her brother, farmer and financier John Boyes, to create a chic range of limited-edition wine. Choose from the Carrol Boyes Collection Shiraz 2012, at R190 a bottle, or the Cape Blend 2012, which comes with a Carrol Boyes bottle-stopper and costs R365. The wine label features signature artwork by Carrol, and the stylish black and white gift box is a keeper.

The Carrol Boyes Collection wines are available online (see www.barnardtboyes.co.za) and at selected stores: see www.carrolboyes.co.za/pages/wine-store-locator for a comprehensive list.
