Make it: DIY Pendant Lights

Create an eye-catching pendant light by converting a couple of coffee mugs or teacups into a decorative element

You’ll need:

–       Mugs or Cups

–       Dulux SuperGrip

–       Dulux PearlGlo (we used Volcano Splash 3)

–       Diamond Core Drill Bit

–       Power Drill

–       Electric Cord

–       Light Fitting

–       Light Bulb

Step 1:

Start by drilling a hole in the bottom of the mug/cup where the electric cord can be threaded through. It is important to use a Diamond-Core Drill bit when drilling through glass or porcelain, as it is rather fragile. Be sure to add a bit of water to keep dust at bay and to keep the drill bit cool.

Step 2:

Once you have drilled the hole, make sure that the mug/ cup is dry and dust free. In order for paint to stick to the interior of the mug, a coat of Dulux SuperGrip is needed. This can be applied with a brush or sponge roller. Once the SuperGrip is dry (1-2 hours drying time), you may proceed to the next step.

Step 3:

Ensure that the coat of Dulux SuperGrip is completely dry before applying the first coat of Dulux PearlGlo (water based) in a colour of your choice. It is advisable to paint two coats with 2-3 hours drying time between coats. PearlGlo can be applied using a brush or sponge roller.

Step 4:

Once your second coat of Dulux PearlGlo is dry, simply thread through the light fitting and have an electrician connect the light to power.
