Upcycle your way to great gift boxes

Would you like to ‘go green’, but not sure where to start? Recycling is a great way for you to do your bit to help save the earth. Plus, it’s the ideal opportunity to teach kids about upcycling from a young age. Here is a simple, fun activity for you and your little ones to do together

Use your favourite cereal boxes and #StartYourGreat go green tradition by creating your very own, unique, upcycled gift boxes! This is your way to show loved ones how much you care about them and our planet.

Here’s what you’ll need

  • The template
  • 2 cereal boxes (one for each gift box)
  • A glue stick
  • A pair of scissors
  • A ruler

Follow these step-by-step instructions to create your gift boxes

(Please note: The DIY gift box is for boys and the heart shaped one is for for girls.)

Step 1

Click here to download the templates for either the DIY PARTY BOX or the HEART SHAPED BOX, then print them out. Tip: You’ll need two templates to create your box.

Step 2

Gently open up your favourite cereal box where it has been stuck together. Be careful not to tear the box.

Step 3

Choose which parts of the cereal box you want to use. Tip: Pick colourful sections with fun designs for an eye-catching gift box.

Step 4

Use the glue stick to paste the patterns onto the blank side of the box.

Step 5

Use the scissors to carefully cut out the pattern.

Step 6

Use the ruler to help you fold along the lines.

Step 7

Use the glue stick to paste ‘flaps’ to the corresponding number. Be sure to paste them on the inside, blank side of the box.

Step 8

Apply pressure and allow it to dry.

Step 9

Place the present inside the box, fold, and gift away.
