Family Fun Friday

Don’t get cabin fever this winter! Here, four rainy-day activities for your children

1. Movie time!

Rent a couple of DVDs, make some coloured popcorn and snuggle up in front of the telly. To make coloured popcorn, just add a few drops of food colouring to fresh, hot popcorn that you can prepare in the microwave. Stir and enjoy!

2. Family fun

Games like Hide and Seek and Simon Says are classics for a reason. No mess – just some good old fashioned fun! Teach your kids some of the games you played as a child. If they’re a little older, you can even teach them to play something a little more challenging, like chess.

3. What’s cooking?

A rainy day is the perfect excuse to bake up a storm. Make pancake batter or buy ready-made cookie dough and have some fun in the kitchen. You can even turn cleaning-up into a game – play a sing-along song while you and your little helpers pack everything away.

4. Let’s go camping

Drape sheets over chairs and pile up some soft cushions and blankets to create a tent for you kids to play and even sleep in. Complete the camping experience with hot dogs and smores. To make smores, place Marie Biscuits on a plate. Put a marshmallow on top of each Marie Biscuit, pop into the microwave for a few seconds, remove and immediately place another Marie Biscuit on top of each big, squishy marshmallow.
