When many of us think of mushrooms, the ones that usually pop into our minds are the white button mushrooms we buy in the supermarket. But there’s a lot more to these fungi! The Mushroom Guru will tell you about mushrooms for hours on end and get you excited about them too. In fact, mushrooms are an extremely interesting topic and a field worth exploring!
The Mushroom Guru does workshops to encourage people to grow their own exotic mushrooms like shiitake and oyster mushrooms. The shiitake log-inoculation workshop teaches you how to inoculate a log in order to grow your own shiitake mushrooms. This is great fun, as everyone drills holes into their log and then stuffs it with dowels.
In the oyster-mushroom workshop you will learn about the different kinds of oyster mushrooms, how to grow them at home and how to prepare them.
Date and time: 2 November, 9am
Venue: 47 Mountain Fern Crescent, Fernwood Estate, Old Sir Lowry’s Pass road, Somerset West
Cost: R350 per person
