There is a lot to consider when buying a new family car, including size, fuel consumption, amenities and comfort. While the market is overloaded with suitable choices, Juliet McGuire, editor of Women on Wheels (WOW), zones in on her two choices for the month.
First, there is the Honda CR-V. This car is still one of the best family cars on the market and, since it launched back in 1995, it has sold more than 9-million units worldwide in more than 150 countries. ‘I am a huge fan of the Honda CR-V. Such a fan that my mom drives one, and so does my aunt,’ says Julia, ‘so it’s safe to say my family are also fans. And for good reason.’
The new Honda CR-V was launched this year, and it’s a completely redesigned and re-engineered model. It’s based on a new platform, that of the Honda Civic, it’s more spacious than ever and the cargo compartment has been extended.
This car has an extensive list of amenities, including increased leg space and boot capacity, as well as a flat loading floor and modern interior. According to Julia, however, not everything ticks all the boxes: ‘Overall, the cabin appears more modern and fresh mainly thanks to the centrally located 5-inch (or 7-inch, depending on the model) display. The problem here is that it looks great, but the actual touch screen proves to be quite tricky and not particularly user-friendly.’

Second, there is the new Peugeot 3008 SUV. This is suited to the adventurous family and is ideal for weekend camping trips. Peugeot has introduced what it says is its most advanced vehicle offered by the brand to date. The new 3008 is the first model to feature the latest-generation Peugeot iCockpit.
If you and your family are all about looks, then this car has those in spades! The exterior styling has all the characteristics of a SUV, and its rear design features a modern black gloss band that incorporates its LED lights.
‘The interior of the 3008 is, dare I say it, going to give its competitors a run for their money,’ says Julia. ‘There’s nothing dull or insignificant about being inside while everything seems to wrap around the cabin perfectly to create a sophisticated and premium feel.’
Keeping the driver in mind, this car even allows you to control the fragrance of the interior while you drive. ‘If you’re anything like me and prefer to keep your car smelling fresh and wonderful, you can change the aroma of the 3008 via the fragrance diffuser,’ says Julia. ‘The three options are “Cosmic Leather”, “Aerodrive”, and “Harmony Wood”.’
