An animal friend can help you through tough times – even without a cuddle.

 

 

In an Israeli study of 120 pet-owners, kitty-loving (and dog-doting) participants whose pets were in the testing room with them had a smaller jump in blood pressure when performing stressful tasks. But you don’t have to bring Fluffy or Fido to your next tense meeting: people who merely thought about their home companions enjoyed similar blood-pressure protection.
