Fans of the 1960s film Breakfast at Tiffany’s, starring Audrey Hepburn and George Peppard will be thrilled to know that Tiffany & Co. jewellers’ flagship Fifth Avenue store in New York has opened a bistro. It’s called The Blue Box Cafe, in honour of the brand’s famous packaging.
The store, which opened on Friday 10 November 2017, is the epiphany of luxury dining. All the décor and accessories have been designed to fit perfectly within the store’s signature blue tone, paired with silver and metallics. In a statement, the company said it’s designed for ‘customers who have always dreamed of having Breakfast at Tiffany’s.’
The café is open during regular store hours, which means customers can stop by after browsing for engagement rings (’tis the season) or just to live out their Audrey Hepburn fantasies. Customers can order items from a seasonal listing. A two-course breakfast costs $29 (about R417) and a two-course lunch costs $39 (about R561).
The breakfast options include a croissant and truffle eggs or seasonal fruit with avocado toast. For a mid-afternoon meal, the lunch menu features delicacies such as a lobster and avocado ‘Fifth Avenue Salad’ or olive-oil-poached salmon paired with caviar. However, if you’re in the market for an original breakfast at Tiffany’s, a coffee will cost you $6 (about R86).
