3 Steps to Packing your Dishwasher

Get the most out of your dishwasher using these 3 steps. By Leah van Deventer

1 Know your machine

Dishwashers operate using jets of water that get dispersed at high speed via a dishwasher’s arms. The fastest jets of water will be at the centre of the bottom and the top racks. Water travels slower in the areas at the sides or edges of the dishwasher racks.

2 Understand the stain

Carbohydrate-based stains, like potato and tomato, need the full force of the water jets to get cleaned, while protein-based foods, such as dried egg yolk and custard, need more contact with detergent.

3 Place the object in the best place

Position dishes with stubborn carbohydrate-based stains nearest the rotating arms, at the centre of the bottom and top racks, so they get full jet pressure. Put dishes with protein-based stains at the edges of the racks, so they get a better soaking.
