1. The Creamery

The Creamery is renowned for its monthly unique flavours based on seasonal produce. All the ingredients are locally and ethically sourced. There are branches in Mouille Point, Dean Street in Newlands and Palmyra Junction in Claremont.

Not only can you get the yummy ice cream in a cup or cone, but you can also sit down for a decadent waffle, served with any ice-cream flavour, or buy some to take home with you. Alternatively, you can also get your scoop  at the Earth Fair Market, the V&A Market on the Wharf or The Neighbourgoods Market at The Old Biscuit Mill.

Must-try flavours: With so many new monthly options, it’s hard to recommend just one flavour, but their Sea Salt Caramel Ice Cream is divine.

Where? Shop 16, Palmyra Junction, Palmyra Road, Claremont; Dean Street, Newlands; 163 Beach Road, Mouille Point

2. Sinnfull Ice Cream Emporium

The first and original Sinnfull Ice Cream Emporium was opened in 2002 in Camps Bay after owner Britta Sinn used to help her father, an Italian ice-cream maker, in his store when she was young. After teaming up with new partners, she opened the exciting new ice-cream factory and retail outlet in Harbour Road, Hout Bay.

Must-try flavours: We recommend the White Chocolate Poppyseed or the Saffron & Pistachio. For the chocolate addict, the Aero is a must-try!

Where? Harbour Road, Hout Bay Harbour (behind Snoekies)

No trip to Kalk Bay is complete without a visit to The Ice Café. A secret third-generation family recipe and only natural ingredients form part of this delicious ice cream. Huge scoops are served in sugar cones or cups. They also honour the earth by urging customers to bring back plastic spoons and cups to be washed and reused.

Must-try flavours: Besides having every flavour you can think of, the Apricot Sorbet is a real treat on a scorching day.

4. Crumbs and Cream

Ditch the plain old cone and try something different – ice-cream sandwich, anyone? A delectable scoop of gelato is sandwiched between a cookie that is not too crunchy or too soft, and the choice of gelato flavours and cookies is impressive. Both classic and unique ice-cream flavours are on offer. There are even sorbets and Banting biscuits!

Must-try flavours: Please don’t make us choose – we want them all! But right now, Cookie Dough Ice Cream sandwiched between two Oreo biscuits sounds like a good idea, right?

Where? 16 Regent Road, Sea Point

5. Unframed Ice Cream

The hottest ice-cream parlour in Kloof Street in Cape Town aims to provide ice cream with a conscience, using only natural ingredients and offering vegan options made from coconut milk. The ice cream is made behind the freestanding counter where flavours such as Grapefruit Sorbet are churned out daily.

Must-try flavours: It’s worth mentioning that they have a ‘Taste Flight’ (five taste portions for R75) available. With so many unique and classic choices, it might be worth it! And do try the Sea Salt Chocolate flavour!

Where? 45C, Kloof Street, CBD. Plus you can buy it at Ginger Deli Kitchen, Shop 15, The Promenade in Victoria Road in Camps Bay and at Spar in Regent Road in Sea Point
