Celebrating your friends’ love with them is always a special and fun occasion. But ticking the ‘yes’ box on the wedding RSVP can turn out to be an expensive decision. The cost of wedding accommodation, travel expenses, the gift, a wedding outfit and so on can quickly add up. Here are some great tips to help you save money and still have a good time.

1. Split travel and accommodation expenses

Is one of your ‘gang’ getting hitched? That’s great news for the rest of you, as you can book a house together with your friends and split the costs. And even better if you are all travelling from the same place. This is a great time to carpool and turn the drive into a road trip with you your friend(s). The best part? You can split the cost of fuel. This will work out much cheaper than travelling and staying alone in a guesthouse.

2. Buy your wedding gift early – on sale

Don’t wait until the last minute to buy that wedding gift, because if you go to the shops the day before the wedding looking for something, you probably won’t find what you’re looking for. Try to tick this off your wedding to-do list as soon as possible, and on sale if possible.

3. Pitch in and buy a group gift

Want to buy the happy couple a holiday but can only afford the brochure? We feel you. If you’re attending the wedding with a group of people you know, buy a group gift. Not only will the gift be much nicer than something you can afford on your own, you also won’t have the pressure of having to think of a great gift to buy. (Phew!)

4. Find a classic wedding outfit and switch it up

If you’re a serial wedding attendee, finding a dress for EVERY wedding can become very expensive. Invest in two or three beautiful, classic dresses and switch them up with different shoes, hairstyles and accessories. Don’t be scared to repeat an outfit. Chances are nobody will even notice that you’ve worn it to previous weddings.

5. Do your own hair and makeup

It’s often just easier to go to the hair salon to achieve that perfect wedding look, but doing your own hair and makeup will save you money. What’s more, you might just find you have a knack for it!
