It’s that time of year when we let our dad and any other father figures in our life know just how much they mean to us. If you are looking for interesting and fun ways to celebrate with Dad and the rest of the family, and you live in Cape Town or happen to be visiting (it is a long weekend, after all), here are five options to choose from.
1. Go on a Scoot Tour

Enjoy some downhill thrills with Scootours. This family-friendly adventure activity makes use of nonmotorised Monster Mountain Scooters that you can ride down the slopes of Cape Town’s most picturesque slopes. These tours take place on the slopes of Table Mountain and in Franschhoek and Stellenbosch. There are Knysna and Drakensberg options too. It’s a thrilling adventure for dads!
Cost: Driver Ticket (10 years and up): R590; Passenger Ticket (4 to 9 years): R290

2. Enjoy lunch with a view

There are plenty of great spots to have lunch in Cape Town, but if you are looking for a place with good food and an outstanding view, check out the Radisson Blu Hotel Waterfront. It is hosting a Jack Daniels Boardwalk Buffet for Father’s Day that includes an exclusive cocktail that can only be ordered on the day. Enjoy delicious food while overlooking the stunning view of the sea and the V&A Waterfront. There will also be a lucky draw where one dad will win a Jack Daniel’s hamper, and all fathers will receive a small gift on the day.
Cost: R455 per person. Children under the age of five eat free of charge and children aged five to 12 receive a 50% discount.

3. Explore Newlands SAB Brewery

If your father is a fan of beer, take him to see the place where some of the country’s best beer is made. The Newlands SAB tour takes guests on an interactive journey that explores the rich history of beer over the years. Learn all about Jacob Letterstedt, who built the original Mariendahl Brewery, the country’s oldest commercial brewery, and pop into the Jacob Letterstedt Pub. The Tour includes two complimentary drinks. Booking is essential, and no under-18s are allowed.
Cost: R30 per person

4. Make a social impact this Father’s Day

Have an unforgettable experience with your dad while doing some good for the community. Airbnb Social Impact Experiences offers a range of exciting, informative and eye-opening experiences that aid various NGOs and other organisations. They are led by passionate locals who want to share their hobbies, skills and communities with you. Choose from learning about the penguins at Boulders Beach to exploring an indigenous garden in Khayelitsha or doing a motorcycle tour along Chapman’s Peak.
Cost: Varies depending on the experience

5. Enjoy a comedy show

Let Dad let loose with some good laughs. Sunday nights are pizza nights at the Cape Town Comedy Club in June. Since Father’s Day falls on a Sunday, take advantage of the deal and enjoy the stand-up comedy of some quality local comedians (and some yummy pizza). Performers include Eugene Khoza, Tracy Klass and more.
Cost: R60 for the ticket; R95 to R125 for the pizza
