5 things you should never wear to a wedding

Avoid these cardinal wedding-outfit sins

By Good Housekeeping

Have a wedding coming up? Make sure you’re not the centre of attention for all the wrong reasons.

1. A WHITE DRESS

Unless you know for a fact that the bride has decided on an unconventional wedding-dress colour, steer clear of white and ivory dresses – especially long ones with lace detail. Keep your pretty little white dress for another occasion, like a kitchen tea, graduation lunch or a daytime date.

2. NEW HEELS

We know you’re looking for a chance to show off your new stilettos, but if you haven’t broken those heels in, you’re probably going to be soothing sore, blistered feet instead of dancing the night away with your friends. Make sure you wear those new shoes before the wedding.

3. SOMETHING SKIMPY

There’s nothing wrong with showing a little leg, back or shoulder, but there’s a time and a place for everything and weddings are not one of them. Try to avoid anything too revealing, like plunging necklines, thigh-high slits, super-short dresses – or worse, a combination of all three.

4. NOISY JEWELLERY

While wearing too much jewellery is not recommended, it doesn’t really bother anyone else when you’re more dolled up than a Christmas tree. But when you wear jewellery that jingles, now that will undoubtedly bother guests during the ceremony, prayers and speeches. Leave the noisy bangles and opt for earrings and/or a necklace instead.

5. A PANTSUIT

True, there’s a fine line between formal and for-the-office attire, but it’s a wedding, not a conference! If you’re really not a fan of dresses or skirts, try a chic jumpsuit instead.
