6 clever new uses for clingwrap

Yes, it’s a kitchen essential, but you’d be surprised to see what else clingwrap is good for!

By Madge Booth

1. Make bananas last longer

Cut a small strip of clingwrap and carefully wrap it around the top/crown of a bunch of bananas (or around the stem if you’ve separated your bananas) to slow down the ripening process.

2. Keep paintbrushes from drying

Painting a room? Cover wet paintbrushes and rollers in clingwrap to prevent them from drying out overnight.

 3. Prevent paint stains

Another clever trick when you’re painting your house: cover taps, mirrors and handles with clingwrap to prevent staining.

 4. Stop liquid leaks when travelling

Prevent shampoo, body wash and other liquid toiletries from leaking in your suitcase: place a piece of clingwrap over the mouth of the bottle before screwing the cap on.

 5. Poach eggs perfectly

Place a sheet of clingwrap in a ramekin, spray with nonstick cooking spray, crack the egg in the hole and wrap the ends op the clingwrap to seal the egg inside. Drop the wrapped egg in boiling water for about 5 minutes and voila!

 6. Cut fridge-cleaning time in half

Cover fridge shelves with clingwrap and simply remove the wrap once dirty – so quick and easy!
