There are those moments, those fateful moments when you have to convince yourself to ‘keep calm and accept Murphy’s Law’. And when those fateful moments involve a roadside emergency, life can come to an abrupt halt – quite literally. But there is hope if you’re a 1st for Women insurance policyholder, because it’s always worth being prepared for any eventuality, even roadside emergencies, just in case.

We’re talking about the Guardian Angel on Call feature on the 1st for Women app. Let’s look at some simple solutions for possible car disasters:

If you need roadside assistance

So your car shuddered its way to a slow and painstaking engine fail and left you stranded on the side of the road – you knew you should have topped up on fuel before braving the traffic. You see the shards of glass on the road too late and drive over them, cringing as you hear the slow release of air pressure – you have a flat. In either case, just breathe. Put your hazards on, put your warning triangle out and turn the location setting on your smartphone on, because help is on its way. The 1st for Women app includes a roadside-assistance provider that you can track to your exact location – just tap on Roadside Assistance and help will be on its way. You will be able to track the service provider through the app and see how long it will take for help to arrive. The roadside-assistance provider will fill your fuel tank, give your battery a boost, fix a flat tyre or tow your car if it’s broken down, pronto.

If you need a plan B

You don’t need to be an auto mechanic to understand when something is seriously wrong with your vehicle. We’re talking about large oil spills, plumes of smoke billowing from your bonnet, your starter just refusing to do its thing, or being involved in an accident and having a car that can’t drive. In these scenarios your car needs to be towed to a safe area where it can be repaired. With the 1st for Women app, a tow is just a tap away. Simply enable your smartphone’s location settings and tap on either Accident Assistance or Roadside Assistance, and your authorised tow truck will be on its way. Need a lift to where you were heading if your car was towed? Simply request a lift via the app.

If you feel unsafe

If luck is really not on your side and you break down in an area that is unfamiliar to you or at night, you might feel unsafe. In those moments it helps to just have someone to wait with until help arrives. If you’ve already requested the Accident or Roadside Assistance option, you can access the Stand-by-me feature via the app and 1st for Women will send the closest available Guardian Angel to wait with you. In the interim, the app will also provide you with helpful safety tips.

If you’ve had an accident

If you’ve had an accident and you’re in need of medical assistance, the 1st for Women app makes sure that emergency medical assistance is just a phone call away. Simply dial the number provided by the app and a trained emergency medical agent will take your call, assess the situation and dispatch an ambulance to assist you. We know what you’re thinking – what if you’re physically incapacitated and can’t make the call? Fortunately, the 1st for Women app has a mobile crash detector function that automatically alerts emergency services if it senses that you have been involved in a serious accident. Such a relief. This mobile crash detector feature is available to 1st for Women policyholders with either Comprehensive or Off-road vehicle cover.
