Having a little one crawling all over the place means that your job to keep them safe is multiplied by a hundred! Once they start crawling, they begin exploring, which means it’s essential to germ-proof your home. Think about how they constantly reach for things, and before you know it they’ve put an old dog bone in their mouth. You may not always be able to prevent this, but what you can do is keep their environment safe. Here are a few tips:
1. Store bleach out of their reach
Domestos Multipurpose Thick Bleach is meant for cleaning and not playing! Kids can find the most arbitrary things entertaining – a set of keys, your cellphone … the list is endless. Read how cellphones are dirtier than your toilet seat. So, store your household detergents high up in closed cupboards where you know your little ones won’t be able to get hold of them.
2. Clean their toys regularly
Toys regularly land on the floor and also outside, where they’re likely to pick up germs. Fill a bucket with about a litre of water and add two to three drops of Domestos Multipurpose Thick Bleach to clean and disinfect their toys. Allow to dry in the sun and they’ll be ready for playtime.
3. Sterilise bottles
Fill a large pot with fresh water – just enough to cover baby’s bottles. Rinse bottles that contained milk thoroughly and then add them to the water. Bring the water to the boil and boil for five minutes. Remove the bottles with kitchen tongs and let them air-dry.
4. Mop frequently
It’s important to keep your floors and furniture clean. Dilute a few drops of Domestos Lemon Fresh Multipurpose Thick Bleach in 500ml water and dip a microfibre cloth in the solution to wipe surfaces that your little one is in contact with. Use the remaining water to mop the floors.
5. Wash hands
After cleaning your home and before cuddling, feeding or holding your little one, make sure your hands are clean. Hands carry germs that can get passed on to baby. Wash your hands with liquid soap for about 20 seconds, then rinse under clean water. Make sure you know how to wash your hands properly. And while you’re at it, start early by letting your little one join in the splashy fun.
By cultivating a safe and clean environment you will be giving your kids the best chance of avoiding transmittable diseases. Or as they say in the classics, let’s shoo the achoo!
