Cape Town comedy festival

The Cape Town International Comedy Festival (the largest of its kind in South Africa) is relaunching this year for one week, starting 1 March 2020 at Artscape Theatre Centre.

This year’s festival aims to cater for every comedy taste and present the latest global trends, with 15 international artists from the comedy capitals of the world joining South Africa’s funniest.

The original Cape Town Comedy Festival launched in 1996 at the Baxter Theatre and was the first international comedy event on the continent. It staged hundreds of international artists from around the globe and sold more than a million tickets during its 16-year run.

The festival has an impressive history of bringing big international acts to SA, including comedians Jim Jeffries, Jimmy Carr and Russell Peters.

It has also catapulted the careers of many local acts (fun fact, Trevor Noah met his US agent at the festival) and this year features local stars such as Loyiso Gola, Nik Rabinowitz and Mel Jones.

Tickets cost from R190 and are available from Webtickets. For more information, visit www.capetowncomedyfestival.com or e-mail info@capetowncomedyfestival.com
