Contouring can seem scary, especially when watching online tutorials where there are so many different colours that you need to use to get the perfect look. It doesn’t have to be an intense process, especially if you’re going to tackle it every morning. You will need a concealer or highlighter, and a bronzer to contour.

Here’s the difference between contouring and highlighting:

Contouring is when you use a matt product that is two shades darker than your normal skin tone to shade areas like your chin, nose, forehead and cheekbones.

Highlighting, or strobing, is when you accentuate areas of your face with a light concealer or highlighter. This process enhances your features.

Step 1: Highlight

Dab your lighter concealer or highlighter across your T-zone, cheekbones and chin. Always remember to highlight down the centre of your nose for a slimming effect.

Step 2: Contour

Use your bronzer or darker shade of foundation to shade the top of your forehead, the base of your cheekbones and the sides of your nose. Shading adds definition to your face and creates stronger features.

Step 3: Blend

Don’t forget to blend. You don’t want to destroy the lines that you have created, but you definitely don’t want to see visible lines. Blend in the product just enough to get the full effect of contouring. You can finish off your contouring look with a bit of shading along your eye sockets – this will give the illusion of runway-model bone structure.
