Hair dusting is the technique that can save locks without losing length

Split ends, begone!

Hair dusting

We all know that we should be going in for a trim at the hairdresser every six weeks in order to maintain the health of our hair. But many people put this off for much longer than advised because they are desperate to grow their hair or hold on to the length they have. Fortunately there is finally a solution in the form of hair dusting – a new hair-cutting trend that is going to make going to the salon a whole lot less stressful!

Hair dusting is fast gaining traction in the US, but we are optimistic that it will reach South African shores soon – because we love our long, flowing locks too! What the technique entails is just cutting off the damaged hair tips rather than chopping off a few centimetres of hair unnecessarily. Rather than being a haircut in the traditional sense, it’s more of a grooming procedure that requires painstaking precision but delivers fabulous results.

How it works

The first step is to straighten the hair so that it is smooth and flat. This way you are better able to see the bad, dead ends because they will pop up. The scissors are then used gently flat against the hair to snip just the split ends, leaving hair looking shiny and healthy after the labour-intensive procedure is complete. It’s just a matter of time before we can walk into a salon and ask for a dusting rather than a trim – and we, and our locks, are counting down the days.
