Go easy on the dye
The main problem that sun causes when it comes to hair is that it dries it out. The same is true for dyeing. If your hair is overprocessed it will become even drier and more brittle with too much sun exposure. Either dye your hair your summer shade before the sun comes out or lay off on the colouring for the duration of the season.

Use top-quality conditioners
Conditioner is going to be your hair’s best friend this summer, as it will help to restore lost moisture. Make sure that you pick one that is suited to your hair type. Investing in a leave-in conditioner is also a smart move, as is switching your regular conditioner for a hair mask, which will give added hydration.
Switch up your shampoo
During summer we sweat more, which means that many of us need to wash our hair more to prevent it from looking limp and greasy. Shampoos can also be extremely drying. So what can you do? Choose a mild shampoo that doesn’t contain sulphates if you are going to be washing your hair more frequently.
Swim smart
The chemicals that are in pool water, as well as sea salt, are also extremely drying. This means that if you plan on going for a dip, don’t wash your hair beforehand, as this will strip it of the natural oils that keep it moisturised and healthy. Ideally, wear a swimming cap. It’s not much of a fashion statement, but it does the job!

Dry it naturally
We know that using heating tools on our hair is one of the main causes of damage. This is why summer is a good time to take advantage of the warmer weather and let your hair air-dry whenever possible. If you can manage not reaching for the curling tongs or straighteners either, that will do your hair the world of good.
Be careful with your colour
If you have a new, shiny hair colour, you need to invest in haircare products that are designed to protect it. The sun is notorious for making hair colour fade much faster. There are shampoos and conditioners that can keep your hair looking vibrant, as well as sprays that can protect it from UV rays.
Cap it off
A great hack for shielding your hair, as well as your face, from the sun’s harsh rays is to wear a hat. There are plenty of stylish options available that will have you looking cool by the pool while also keeping your hair safe and healthy.
