Have you ever noticed how jewellery can look different on different people? One of the main reasons for this is skin tone. Matching the colour of your jewellery with your skin tone can be just as important as matching the colour of your dress with your eyes. If you understand your skin tone and what colour metals/gemstones flatter it, finding jewellery that makes you feel confident and beautiful will be a breeze.
There are three types of skin tones: warm, cool and neutral. One of the best ways to see what category you fit into is to look at the veins on the inside of your wrist. Taking note of your other physical attributes such as hair, eyes and general skin colour can also help.

Warm:
For people who have a warm skin tone, the veins in their wrists will look more green than blue. If you are a redhead or have light blonde hair you will probably fall into this category. People with warm skin tones usually have blue, green or hazel eyes. You also know you have a warm skin tone if you tan easily or if your skin is ebony/espresso.
This skin tone matches best with yellow, orange and green gemstones, as well as gold or bronze metals.

Cool:
People who have veins that appear more purple or blue are considered to have a cool skin tone. People in this category generally have blonde, brunette or black hair and light blue or brown eyes. This category also includes people who get sunburnt easily and whose skin can appear a little red.
Cool skin tones look best with red, blue and purple gemstones. White metals like silver and white gold are the most flattering for those with a cool skin tone.

Neutral:
If your skin has no obvious olive, espresso or red colour and your veins look blue/purple in some places and green in others, you have a neutral skin tone.
If you have a neutral skin tone, you’ve hit the genetic jackpot and can pull off any gemstone, as well as both gold and silver jewellery.

Always remember that your skin tone has to do with your ethnic background and not your environment. However, if you have a cool skin tone and manage to get a killer tan we’re sure you will be able to get away with wearing some gold!
