Local-is-lekker Cooking Classes

Don your apron, roll up your sleeves and learn to whip up some mouthwateringly moreish dishes. Take your pick from these culinary experiences:

 

 

FESTIVE-SEASON BAKING AND ENTERTAINING

WHERE: LiV’iN Batterie de Cuisine, Woodlands Boulevard, Pretoria East

WHAT: You’ll get to cook a three-course meal, plus a treat to take home. Each day has a different menu, except for 19 December (9am to 1pm), when macarons will be on the menu. Courses include Roasted Vegetable Tarte Tatin served with Olive Tapenade, Prawn & Chorizo Paella and Star Anise Panna Cotta served with Mango Sorbet. Treats include Black Pepper & Strawberry Fudge and Gingerbread & Zimtsterne.

WHEN: 20 and 27 November and 10, 18 and 19 December 2014 (two sessions per day: 9am to 12pm and 2pm to 5pm)

COST: R350 per person (includes all your ingredients plus two nonalcoholic drinks per person, and all the recipes will be e-mailed to you).

GAME FOR A SUPER-LUXE COOKING CLASS? 

WHERE: Shamwari Game Reserve in the Eastern Cape and Sanbona Wildlife Reserve near Cape Town.

WHAT: In conjunction with GOLD Restaurant and managed by Stir Crazy Cooking School, Shamwari Game Reserve and Sanbona Wildlife Reserve have opened two cooking-school experiences called Cooking Wild. Guests will enjoy game drives and hone their culinary skills at a luxury lodge, with a bush dinner on the final evening. They will learn to master Moroccan tagines, the spices of Zanzibar, Cape Malay curries and venison, among other things.

WHEN: Once a month at each game reserve, all year round (minimum of two guests). Additional dates are available for groups of six or more, subject to availability.

COST: The five-day/four-night package course costs R24 000 per person (the single supplement is 50%), and includes accommodation, meals and game drives, as well as the ingredients for the cooking course. House wines will be served with all meals, and additional wines and spirits can be bought. A further three-day/two-night add-on package option is R8 000 per person. Rates are from November 2014 to the end of December 2015.
