Stop environmental damage in its tracks

We have a pollution problem. And while many people are focusing on the issue of plastic, many environmentalists feel that climate change and air pollution are actually bigger concerns that need to be addressed in our quest for a healthier planet.

Air pollution is not only bad for the earth and our general wellbeing, it can also wreak havoc on our skin and is a major culprit when it comes to inflammation, premature ageing and pigmentation. Natalya Rachkova, aesthetician and co-founder of The Better Skin Co., says our skin impacts what we are absorbing into our bodies and that we need to protect ourselves from the outer world and its aggressors.

But what causes pollution to affect our skin negatively? Pollution contains tiny particles known as particulate matter, as well as nitrogen dioxide and chemicals like polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons. These particles clog the pores, resulting in a dull complexion, and unevenness and discolouration of the skin. Anti-pollution skincare is designed to remove these microparticles and protect and strengthen the skin by creating a protective shield against environmental aggressors.
