1. Delete Leaf Stains
Falling leaves are pretty, but the tannins they contain can leave behind ugly marks. To remove them:
- Wet the stained spot well with a hose.
- Apply a household rust remover like 30 Seconds.
- Spray it on and leave it for 30 seconds. Make sure you wear rubber gloves to protect your hands.
- Wash it off with water.
- Hose the area off well.
2. Erase mildew marks
To zap spots caused by moisture trapped under planters and debris:
- Mix 2 cups of liquid chlorine bleach and 2½tablespoons of powdered laundry detergent with 1,5 litres of warm water.
- Soak the stain with the solution and allow it to set for 10 to 15 minutes; if it starts drying midway, wet it again.
- Scrub it with a stiff brush, wearing rubber gloves to protect your hands.
- Hose space off thoroughly, since remaining bleach, over time, can damage wood in particular.
Make it easier next time:
• Trim overhanging branches and sweep wet leaves, pine needles and other debris ASAP, to prevent staining.
• Place planters and pots on stands to keep mildew from forming underneath them.
