10 easy steps to make your own book storage crate

1. Use a measuring tape and mark the centre point of the short sides of the crate and draw a line with a pencil from top to bottom, across the short sides of the crate.

2. Cut the crate in half using the jigsaw with wood blade.

3. Using the jigsaw, cut the wooden planks to fit each crate lengthwise across the bottom, and drill holes on each end with the cordless drill with the screwdriver bit.

4. Attach the wooden planks using the 6mm x 40mm screws so they fit horizontally across the vertical slats at the bottom of each crate and sand the crate until smooth with the 100-grit sandpaper.

5. Shake the Woodoc Colours in Seagrass well and mix into the Woodoc Water-Borne FLOOR Sealer in Matt/Clear. Stir the mixture well and apply one light coat to the book storage crate with the paintbrush and leave it to dry thoroughly. When dry, sand the first coat lightly with 100-grit sandpaper.

6. Apply the second coat to darken the tone of the Woodoc Colours in Seagrass and leave to dry thoroughly. When the second coat is dry, sand lightly with the 100-grit sandpaper.

7. Apply the final coat, leave to dry thoroughly and sand lightly with the 100-grit sandpaper.

8. Attach the hooks on either side of the back of the crate and drill two holes in relation to the placement of the hooks.

9. Mount the crate on the wall using the four nails.

10. And that’s it! Happy reading.
