10 easy steps to make your own braai utensil holder

  1. Place the four wooden board planks for the board side by side, apply wood glue to the adjoining sides of the planks and press them tightly to create the utensil board.
  2. Pencil in points for the two backstraps about 150mm from each end. Place the backstraps across the four pieces, apply glue to the area where the backstraps are placed and press down firmly. Drill three pilot holes in each backstrap using a 3mm wood drill bit, then drill three wood screws into each backstrap.
  3. Sand the board with the sandpaper to remove uneven bits and roughness.
  4. Shake the 20ml Woodoc Colours Clifton Grey well and mix it into the litre of Woodoc Water-Borne Floor Clear/Gloss. Stir well and paint the top of the board with one light coat using the paintbrush and leave it to dry thoroughly. Warmer conditions will decrease drying time.
  5. Sand the first coat lightly with 100-grit sandpaper and remove any dust with a dry cloth or rag.
  6. Paint the second and third coats, leaving enough drying time in between to darken the tone of the Woodoc Colours Clifton Grey and keep on sanding lightly between the coats.
  7. Place the vinyl stencil on the upper front section of the board. Protect the area around the vinyl with paper.
  8. Spray-paint over the stencil and leave it to dry completely. When the vinyl is completely dry, peel it off slowly.
  9. Pencil in four equally spaced markers for the four knobs or hooks. Drill four holes at each of the markers with a 6mm wood drill bit. Attach and turn the knobs or hooks into place and secure them.
  10. Drill a hole into the upper backstrap with a 8mm wood drill bit for the board to hang against a wall, and hang your braai utensils.
