Dowel rods/old broomstick or rake handles
Jigsaw with wood blade
100-grit sandpaper
Woodoc Colours in Sunrise (20ml)
Woodoc Water-Borne FLOOR Sealer in Matt/Clear (1 litre)
Paintbrush
Wood glue
Cable ties
Galvanised-metal bracing strap
Nails
Hammer
Step-by-step video: how to make a dowel stool/side table
10 easy steps to make your own dowel stool/side table
1. Cut dowel rods to various lengths as desired. Make sure you have at least four dowel rods of 450mm for the legs.
2. Sand the dowels with 100-grit sandpaper. Sanding is important, as it gets rid of any existing paint, sealant or roughness before you apply sealer and colour to the dowel rods.
3. Shake the Woodoc Colours in Sunrise well and mix it into the Woodoc Water-Borne FLOOR Sealer in Matt/Clear.
4. Stir the mixture well, apply one light coat to the dowels with the paintbrush and leave it to dry thoroughly. When dry, sand lightly with 100-grit sandpaper.
5. Apply the second coat to darken the tone of the Woodoc Colours in Sunrise and leave to dry thoroughly. When the second coat is dry, sand lightly with the 100-grit sandpaper.
6. Apply a third coat of sealer if desired and sand lightly with the 100-grit sandpaper once dry.
7. Apply glue to each dowel.
8. Create a bundle of dowels around the four legs to make a seat and use the cable ties to hold the bundle together.
9. Wrap the galvanised-metal bracing strap around the bundle of dowels and fasten the strap to the stool with nails.
10. That’s it! Now you can enjoy your dowel stool/side table.
