By Good Housekeeping

Whole peeled tomatoes are great for sautéing, and cooking stews and pasta sauces. We put six brands to the test:

First place

Our testers loved the Woolworths Italian Whole Peeled Tomatoes (R12,95 for 400g) for their nice red sauce, slightly sweet fresh tomato flavour and soft, plump texture.

A-grade goodness

Our testers loved the plumpness of Pick n Pay’s Whole Peeled Tomatoes (R8,99 for 400g). The tomatoes look fresh and solid, and have a tangy taste and a very good aroma.

Aromatic choice

The bright red colour of the Rhodes Whole Peeled Tomatoes (R10,99 for 400g) appealed to our testers, who also noted the lovely aroma with hints of vinegar and a rich tomato smell.

Also tested:

Please note, these two tested products are 800g cans and not 400g cans like the three tested products above.

1. The Pot O’ Gold Whole Peeled Tomatoes (R14,99 for 800g) scored major points with our testers thanks to their thick sauce, lasting flavour and plump, soft tomatoes.

2. Our testers loved the generous size as well as the tasty aroma of Serena Whole Peeled Tomatoes (R15,99 for 800g).
