The 5 Christmas nail-art themes that are dominating 2018

Nailed it!

Christmas textiles

In the Southern Hemisphere we might be sweltering hot on Christmas Day, but that doesn’t mean that we don’t appreciate the designs and motifs from up north. Festive patterns that are often found on jerseys and textiles make for some great nail art, especially when using muted tones such as whites and greys. And a bit of sparkle doesn’t hurt either!

The Grinch

Most people think of Christmas as a joyful time. That is, unless you The Grinch. This Dr Seuss character might not be the obvious choice for a festive manicure, but he seems to be gaining popularity, if social media is anything to go by. These manicures include more green shades, which is great for those who prefer cool hues (and laugh-out-loud nail art).

Christmas talons

Long, sharp, pointy nails might not be practical for everyday (or any day!) wear, but they are loved by nail artists because they have a much bigger canvas to work on. And when it comes to Christmas, the more the merrier! This means that you can include characters ranging from Santa to snowmen all in one cheerful manicure.

Candy canes

One motif that is synonymous with the December holidays is the candy cane. This peppermint sweet is a great theme for nail art because it can be subtle enough to wear every day without getting too many stares. Whether you opt for stripes on all your nails or just one statement nail, candy canes are jolly enough to get into the spirit of the season while still being classy.

Understated fun

Not all festive manicures have to be bold or loud. You can still get into the spirit by wearing something more subtle, like using a red and green colour combination or going with something that isn’t overtly Christmas but is definitely festive and versatile, like stars or glitter. That way the mani can be worn all the way through to New Year!
