The Duchess of Cambridge and Prince William have welcomed their third child into the world today – and it’s a boy! Kensington Palace broke the happy news on Twitter today at exactly 14:04. He weighs 3.8kg and mother and baby are doing fine.

Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge was safely delivered of a son at 1101hrs.
The baby weighs 8lbs 7oz.
The Duke of Cambridge was present for the birth.

The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Prince of Wales, The Duchess of Cornwall, Prince Harry and members of both families have been informed and are delighted with the news.

The third royal baby was born in the private Lindo Wing of St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington at 11:00. Kate was admitted to hospital after going into the early stages of labour in the early hours of this morning.
Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge was admitted to St. Mary’s Hospital, Paddington, London earlier this morning in the early stages of labour.
The Duchess travelled by car from Kensington Palace to the Lindo Wing at St. Mary’s Hospital with The Duke of Cambridge.

The arrival of Kate and Will’s newborn son means that Princess Charlotte is making history as the first Royal girl to not be overtaken in succession by her newest brother. The Succession to the Crown Act 2013 was changed when Kate was pregnant with George. This means that Charlotte will remain in her position as fourth in line to the British throne.
Shortly after the birth a notice was placed on the forecourt of Buckingham Palace announcing the joyful news:

The new addition to the royal family, as well as the Duchess of Cambridge, are said to be doing just fine. We can’t wait to see the first photographs of the newest royal. If William and Kate’s previous two children are anything to go by, this little bundle of joy is going to be absolutely adorable!
Paparazzi and members of the public who have been camping outside the hospital are rejoicing at the news and awaiting the first sighting on the steps of the Lindo Wing. Congrats to Kate and William!
