We all know that we should be washing our face at least twice a day. In the morning it’s to get rid of dead skin cells, sweat and any grime from your pillow (gross!) that may be clinging to your skin. In the evenings, it’s to remove makeup as well as pollutants that have landed on your skin throughout the day. Not washing your face regularly can lead to break-outs, clogged pores and premature ageing, so it’s definitely not advisable to skimp on, or skip, your daily skincare routine. But did you know that there is a correct time to wash your face in the evenings? If not, you will soon!

Time to get clean
Most of us wash our face a few minutes before we hit the hay, but we should actually be washing much earlier. How much earlier? Ideally, when the sun starts to set. This might seem unnecessary, but hear us out…. Our bodies follow a circadian rhythm, which is like an internal clock. This also applies to our skin. The natural repair mechanisms that create new cells in our skin start functioning as it starts getting dark. Studies have shown that maintaining our circadian rhythm is important to prevent the telltale signs of ageing. It also means that, since your skincare products are already on your face, your skin is able to maximise their benefits.

Another benefit to washing your face earlier is that it gets it out of the way. This means more time to relax and no more excuses about being too tired for a cleansing session. Genius!
