It’s tradition for newlywed couples to go on their honeymoon almost immediately after the wedding, as an extended celebration of their future life together. But breaking with this custom, it seems Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will be delaying their honeymoon for a little while.

Kensington Palace confirmed that Harry and Meghan will attend a garden party thrown by the Queen for Prince Charles’ 70th birthday on May 22. Taking place three days after the royal wedding, the Birthday Patronage Celebration will be held at Buckingham Palace and will mark the newlyweds’ first official event both as royals.
The garden party will welcome members of the royal family, along with close friends of the Prince of Wales and representatives from 400 charities to honour the work they do that’s ‘close to his heart.’ But the confirmation of Meghan and Harry’s attendance at the garden party means they won’t be going on their honeymoon until at least the day after that – four days after their wedding takes place.
The couple are reportedly visiting Namibia for their romantic getaway – and if they do, it won’t be any great surprise. Africa is a place of great symbolism to the couple, who took an impromptu trip to Botswana shortly after they started dating. In fact, Botswana holds such lovely memories for the pair that Harry chose a precious stone from the African country for the centrepiece of Meghan’s engagement ring. The royal wedding takes place this Saturday, May 19.
