WATCH: District Six crowds welcome Meghan and Harry

For the second engagement in their Royal Tour Africa, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex visited District Six in Cape Town.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry had previously visited the township of Nyanga and had a joyous time with the community.

The second half of Day one for #SussexRoyalTour brought Their Royal Highnesses to The District Six Museum and the Homecoming Centre who are re-building their local community in Cape Town. The Duke and Duchess had a first hand look and understanding of how much of this diverse community was destroyed, with people subjected to forced relocation during the apartheid era. At the Homecoming centre The Duke and Duchess were treated to food cooked by local women that showcased the wonderful variety of recipes – and the importance of cooking to bring communities together – a topic The Duchess feels strongly about (just like Together, the cookbook from the women of The Hubb Community Kitchen which The Duchess supported this time last year). • Their Royal Highnesses have had an amazing first day in South Africa and are incredibly grateful for the wonderful welcome they have received. After a late lunch, they changed their clothes and made their way to the District Six Museum. There they were greeted by Bonita Bennett, the director of the museum.

And the crowds outside the museum went C R A Z Y for the royals:

The blue Veronica Beard dress that Meghan wore was the same one that she wore in Tonga during the tour that she and Harry did last year when she announced her pregnancy.

They took time to shake hands with royal watchers who came out for the chance to see them.

Some fans even handed them gifts, such as paintings:

Harry and Meghan listened attentively as former residents of District Six told them about their displacement under the apartheid rule:

The two tasted some traditional Capetonian delicacies while in District Six:

And even as they left, the crowds went wild!

The District Six Museum is not only a way of educating people about the consequences of the Group Areas Act but they are also working to reunite members of the community who were forcibly removed during apartheid.

Tomorrow sees the Duke and Duchess starting their day at Monwabisi Beach and meeting with organisations such as Waves for Change, The Lunchbox Fund and the Commonwealth Litter Program. Later they will celebrate Heritage Day in Bo Kaap and then they will visit the Auwal Mosque, the oldest mosque in the country.
