Why the royal baby’s name has not been announced yet

The baby is here! The baby is here! The name, well, that’s another story.

Within a matter of hours, the Duchess of Cambridge gave birth to a baby boy, introduced him to his older siblings, and packed up the car to head home. And while the world has caught a glimpse of this adorable little prince, there’s one question on everyone’s mind: What’s his name? It’s a mystery — for now. The delayed response from the royal couple isn’t unusual, however.

Prince George’s name was announced on Twitter two days after he was born.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are delighted to announce that they have named their son George Alexander Louis.

They followed the same timeline with Princess Charlotte. Her name was announced on Twitter two days after her birth.

Other royals, including Prince William, really kept people waiting. It took Prince Charles and Princess Diana an entire week to announce William’s name after his birth.

There are two main reasons for the name delay, according to experts. ‘The reasoning is perhaps two fold. On one hand there’s a desire to inform the families before a public declaration is made and any new parent appreciates having a little private time to get to know their new addition before the onslaught of announcements,’ commenter Victoria Arbiter told Town & Country.

‘Royals, however, also have to consider the great responsibility in naming a new member of the family and I expect they want to be a hundred percent certain of their choice before announcing the name and sealing the baby’s place in history.’

Although the world’s waiting for an answer, it’s only fair that the couple gets the same treatment as everyone else. Remember: They are people just like the rest of us … well, kind of.
